The five rules

  1. The Mixon rule. No pick, any round, on a player without a return date.
Why: Mixon cost a top-90 pick in 2025 and never took a snap; he was already out on draft night. Watson 2021, Fuller 2021, Michael Thomas 2021 all repeated the same shape.
  2. Two-dart stop-loss. Two speculative misses at a position, and the next pick there must be proven floor.
Why: 2023 spent five straight WR darts (Watson, JSN, Burks, Chark, Atwell) on the same profile, all zeros, while proven target-earners went in the same windows.
  3. Carry two QBs when waiting. QB1 at 107+, QB2 by R14-16, rushing upside first.
Why: the wait was right every year, but 2022 (Stafford only) and 2025 (Baker only) both died carrying one fragile QB with no insurance.
  4. Role over resume. Anchor RBs need structural volume: contract, depth chart, scheme. Never a career-year echo.
Why: every busted anchor in four drafts was reputation-priced: Saquon 1.01 in 2025, Ekeler 1.03 in 2023, JT 1.01 in 2022, CMC 1.01 in 2021.
  5. Yards and TDs over catch volume. Standard scoring does not pay receptions.
Why: McConkey and Ridley (2025) were catch-profile prices that returned WR4 value, while Diggs, bought one round later on a yards-and-TD profile, was the best value on the roster.

Your arc

2021 C- (9th), 2022 D+ (9th), 2023 A- (2nd), 2025 B- (5th). The structure is fixed; the one leak left is the speculation dart in the leverage rounds and the one-QB room. The five rules above exist to close exactly that leak.
